The Wave

Sarah Quick
Victor Alvarez

  1. Our group is going to create a brand for a soft drink.
  2. The name that we pick was the wave. We choose this name because its something that we see everyday and sound hip and it is also easy to say And the slogan would be “catch on to the wave”
  3. We would position this brand against competition that our brand is shaped like a wave, which makes it easier for people grip and that it is bigger than the regular soda. The brand image would make it unique and successful alternative by the shape of a wave. IT would stand out by because of again the shape, color and the great taste of ocean lime. The name and look is different from any other soda cans out.
  4. The strategies that we have for the wave would be to start in one certain area and branch off to other areas like Whataburger (how they started off in Corpus and soon branched off). We would produce a TV ad that shows water and a soda washing up on shore from a wave. The slogan in the saying did you catch the wave. We want something that can catch the eye of a younger audience. Our brand would sponsor the suffers in all areas, because of the name and so that we can branch off to other place in the world we have product placement and integration with the suffer channel and with sitcoms that deal with water or people who live or have a story based on the beach. Our product will have a cool looking bottle that is shape like wave to catch people eye and the color of the soda would catch people eye because the bottle would be clear.

I think your marketing is dead-on, but you should make the drink sound more flavorful than the "ocean lime" makes it sound. Maybe you could emphasize the cool refreshing quench of fresh water combined with the bold taste of the new blue-lime. That way I have no clue what it tastes like, but it might intrigue me to try it. Like I said, your marketing would work well to publicize the product, since the surf community has rapidly become as commercialized as every other sport. You could even try the "Monster" technique and give out samples at every surf competition on the planet. I think the kids would love the fact that it looks so different. This would help them stand-out as original and artistic, which is a great quality for surfers in regard to other athletes. Of course, this would fade as the product took over other sports, but if it tastes good, it wouldn't matter. "The Wave" would be golden and everyone would want to taste the delicious spray.

I like the idea of having a unique new bottle for the soda. I might be mistaken but I think that Mountain Dew is in the middle of promoting a blue soda along with a couple of other flavors right now. I do believe that the packaging would be unique though. I also like your marketing ideas of promoting the drink at surfing events, given the name of your product. I believe that it might be successful more around the coastal areas and maybe even other areas trying to get the "feel" of the beach life.

I LIKE TO THINK OF THE "WAVE" AS A REFRESHING DRINK THAT NO ONE ELSE COULD PRODUCE. BEING IN CORPUS THE DRINK WOULD TAKE OFF QUICKLY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU COULD HAVE A 1960VOLKSWAGEN VAN AND CRUISE THE BEACH SELLING THIS STUFF.
IT IS HOT OUT THERE AND PEOPLE WOULD BUY YOUR PRODUCT LIKE CRAZY.

I love the name and I think the wave shape of the clear container really sets it apart from other drinks being sold currently. Targeting a specific demographic is a great idea to launch the drink but maybe once it has caught on you could advertise to other demographics, still keeping with the beach theme but appealing to a wider audience, with the appeal of a relaxing beach setting that anyone can escape to by drinking this drink. This might resemble what Corona ads are doing right now. I think this product has great potential.

Considering that this is a local soda, you should consider teaming up with Whataburger so that they may offer it.

Also, I highly recommend you make a variety of soda that has much less sugar than the leading brands. Most sodas today are made with high fructose corn syrup, rather than cane sugar, which is even more destructive to the body.

Also, it would be a good idea to use Stevia for a diet soda. All current sugar substitutes have the potential to create cancer in the body, and some also hurt the pancreas, which ironically may lead to Diabetes.

I like the whole idea. I think the new bottle shape is innovative and interesting. Appealing packaging is a great way to get people's attention on your product. Using the ocean is a good technique also. It relates a drink to a place that most people think of as fun and relaxing.

Soft drinks are hard to sell and I would advise if you make your product blue and the bottle shape like a wave then the drink, to me has to be refreshing. So this would be the task that your company would have to tackle. Once they barreled that job over, get it like a wave. Then you would have to use some product placement in various sporting events to get the word out. Everyone likes to be refreshed not just surfers, hence the popularity of gadorate and it was created in the heat of competition and yet average Joes drink it everyday.
